Biography
Maame Adjei is a multi-hyphenate creative entrepreneur. Since moving from Philadelphia back home to Ghana in 2013, Ms Adjei has delved into her love for the arts. Moving away from her background in Psychology (BA) and Healthcare Finance/Administration (MS) she chose to follow her interests, passions and heart into creative fields.
Currently Ms Adjei runs a boutique production company, Sweet Roots Media, a media hub with a focus on telling stories that amplify, showcase and reveal the cultural narratives and history that connect people across the african continent and diaspora. Sweet Roots provides creative services for brands and individuals including technical development, creative consulting, copywriting, content ideation and 360 tv and film production.
Ms Adjei’s passion is to tell visual stories that connect, expose and explore the continent, with a deep focus on women. She’s been featured in Elle, Marie Claire and CNN’s African Voices, has written for Huff Post and Blavity. She is currently working on her first film as writer/director, a 1970’s Ghana set drama called Afternoon Jump.

As an artist Ms Adjei has been repurposing and refurbishing furniture for years. She has created pieces for private clients and produced visual installations for the The Chalewote Street Arts festival in Accra in both 2013 and 2014. Her focus is on up cycling-reusing discarded materials and refurbishing old pieces to make them functional and contemporary. Mongo Slade, an online store stocking vintage and refurbished antiques, is a culmination of these passions.
As an actress she’s best know for her role as “Zainab” on the hit TV series “An African City” which she also co-produces. Ms Adjei has also had roles in “A Sweet Song”, a short film by Ghanaian director Asantewa Prempeh that was selected into the 2014 BFI London Film Festival and a leading role in “Before The Vows” a feature film by talented writer and director, Nicole Amarteifio. Ms Adjei was also a producer and talent director for the Miss Universe Ghana pageant in 2014 and had the honor of judging the pageant in 2015.

In 2022 MsAdjei launched her jewelry line, Duruyeh. Duruyeh is a brand born in Africa. Named after Ms Adjei’s grandmother, Duruyeh seeks to remind women of their inherent beauty and the innate characteristics they already possess: Power, Grace and True Beauty.
